Out with the Old and In with the New: 2011 Fashion Wrap-Up

Hello Readers, your fashion fairies would like to apologize profusely for the holiday Houdini disappearing act.  We have been indulging (as we hope you have as well) in a much needed vacation!
As the new year begins, we reflect on 2011 and want to thank everyone for your continuous support!  MaisonStyle was launched in February 2011 and we’ve had over 15,000 visitors since!  We hope that you are all enjoying our posts and will continue to read along in 2012.

To close-out 2011, we’d like to review and highlight some of our favourite fashion trends and fashionistas from this past year:

The Trends:
It was a very inspiring and diverse fashion year, including retro influences from the 60s and 70s, men-inspired wear, bold colours and patterns from polka-dots and stripes to animal prints and fur. Here are some of our favourites:

Lace – I think we can thank Kate Middleton for giving lace a big boost in popularity this season.  Lace was seen on the bridal runway, evening and day wear a-like.  Whether full lace gowns or understated embellishments, the timeless fabric made a huge come back this year and we hope it stays throughout 2012.
Bold Colour – The runways were bursting at the seams with colour this year and we were happy to see it.  Whether it was colour-blocking dresses, bright suits, or bold hued jeans, the runways looked .    Cobalt may be our favourite colour of the season, a universal flattering shade, but red came in a close second with R snagging a pair of red skinnies.
Embellishments; Glitter and Sequins – Always popular during the holidays, sequins and glitter had a big presence this year beyond festive wear.  Embellished shirts and skirts, full sequin dresses, and glitter handbags and shoes, there were sparkles everywhere, and we couldn’t have been any happier.

Favourite Red Carpet Fashionistas:

Zoe Saldana: Always sophisticated Saldana rocked the red-carpet this year.  Often opting for longer silhouettes, Zoe always looks polished, on-trend yet classic.
Emma Stone: We’ve mentioned her before this year as our favourite up and coming fashion star and now looking back at an entire year of red-carpet, we still agree. As a redhead, brunette or blond, Stone has remained a top pick on almost all celebrity fashion list – we bow to her stylist!
Blake Lively: Despite a few hiccups toward year-end Blake Lively has remained very prominent on celebrity fashion scene this year.  She somehow manages to wear very fashion forward pieces of every colour and pull them off beautifully.  What sets Lively apart is that she does not gravitate to any particular silhouette, colour, style or designer yet still somehow seems to pull it all together.

And there you have it readers, our favourite things of 2011.
We hope you’ll follow along in 2012 – it’s gonna be a big year!

Your fashion fairies,

M & R
