Just when you thought you couldn’t shop enough… welcome online shopping! Ok, ok, I know, online shopping has been around forever. Most companies allow you to purchase directly from their website and have it shipped to your home for little to no fee and of course eBay has been around for ages.
Banana Republic, the Gap and Gravity Pope are some of our favourite online shops. They have great sales every day and will ship anywhere in Canada. These are great options for discounts on your basic tees, sweaters and pants. Additionally, if you join BR & the Gap’s mailing list, they have almost daily sales that are always worthwhile.
However, up until recently, it was more difficult to buy designer items at discounted prices if you lived in Canada. eBay offers one-off items and most big online discount stores that offered flash sales or auctions on designer items were hosted solely in the U.S. With fluctuating exchange rates, customs and shipping fees, at the end of the day, those great deals weren’t so great after all.
Beyond The Rack may be the most well-known site. Hosted in Montreal, it is a “private” shopping club offering discounts of up to 70% on designer clothes, accessories and home items. You’ll be notified about any “event” (sale) according the the preferences you set with your “membership”. I just fell in love with a pair of Badgley Mischka shoes for under $100! Recent sales have also included London Fog, Missoni, Oscar de la Renta, vintage Louis Vuitton and Chanel! Membership is free. Visit beyondtherack.com
StyleHopper is a smaller Toronto-based online discount store. Like BTR, it also offers massive discounts on designer brands. They will ship your purchase for free if you spend $150 or more. Current sales include Christian Audiger, French Connection and Deux Lux (which you may have seen at Anthropologie). Go to stylehopper.com to request your membership now.
A much smaller site which I have recently discovered is FranticFashion. This site is Canadian hosted (in BC) and offers a few items (1-3) at time for flash sales between 10-60 minutes. It requires some time and keeping your eyes peeled for items you like but offers great deals from 40-90% on average. To see what they are currently selling visit franticfrashion.com.
So whip your credit cards out, get a comfy chair and start shopping. Let us know what you think of the sites above and we’d love to hear of any others that you have found.
