Sister Act 1: Trustfund & Roadtrip

I’ve said before that I much prefer individual shops to overwhelming malls but sometimes it’s hard to find designer brands at smaller boutiques-that is, unless you know where to look.
Trustfund and Roadtrip, both located in the Byward Market area are “sister” stores that offer a variety of hip, upscale brands.

The aptly named Trustfund, perhaps the more prestigious of the two, offers exclusive, designer brands that are a tad tricky to find elsewhere. In fact, according to their website “Trustfund is nationally recognized as THE place to shop in Ottawa”.

Located on Sussex at York St, the cozy and inviting boutique -which I might add is brilliantly organized by colour-offers both men and womens clothes as well a small selection of shoes and rubber boots. They carry a large selection of some of my favourite denim: Citizens of Humanity, 7 for all mankind, J Brand and Nudie (which I’m actually wearing as I type) to name a few. They also carry a divine selection of beautiful dresses, shirts and jewellery. While their prices are on the higher end, with designers like Amanda Uprichard (her silk dresses are to die for), and Graham & Spencer (this sophisticated luxury line is from the designers of “Velvet”) and the pieces they stock it’s worth the investment.

Roadtrip, the baby sister to Trustfund, may be the newer addition to the family but is not to be overlooked.

The fresh, welcoming atmosphere of this boutique will have you perusing the also colour-coordinated racks for the entire afternoon. While their prices are not in the same range as Trustfund, the merchandise still packs plenty of punch. Roadtrip also carries a great selection of denim-I LOVED Fidelity’s denim shorts-as well as countless spring dresses and fun tops for the warmer weather (if it ever comes!) As their site states: “the Roadtrip woman is free-spirited, sexy and modern with a slight bohemian edge”. Their jewellery selection is creatively displayed on the walls so be sure not to miss it! Also not to be missed are their sale racks. While many store sale racks are the end-of-season discards, Roadtrip’s has many items that are very desirable at extremely affordable prices.

Like most sisters, these stores have their own taste and style and may attract a different crowd, but what they do have in common is what makes them both fantastic: beautiful, feminine pieces; a great variety of denim;and the personal shopping feel you won’t find at a big box store.

Happy shopping!
