Oscars 2011 Review: Glitter, feathers and orange oh my!
As the stars sleep off their champagne-induced daze, we hand out our own “best of ” to the nights fashion favourites and fails. From Bjork’s swan dress to Gwyneth’s candy floss pink gown, this historic night sets the stage for celebrities to parade their finest frocks; so, naturally we were highly anticipating this years display.
Unfortunately, in keeping with the underwhelming trend of this season awards, the 83rd Academy Awards were less than the expected spectacle. The gentlemen kept it classy, the ladies played it safe.
Thus, we didn’t take long to deliberate and select our top 3 best dressed of this years Oscars.
Jennifer Hudson‘s tangerine Versace gown was a burst of colour amongst a variety of muted tones, Mila Kunis‘ -whom we agree was the best dressed for the entire award season- was the epitome of femininity in a intricately designed lavender Elie Saab and Hilary Swank, once again, wore a show-stopping Gucci number.
The ever-so-honourable mentions:
Cate Blanchette was likely the most daring of the Oscar starlets in a lavender (popular pale shade!) hue Givenchy Haute Couture dress with yellow and violet beading.
Sandra Bullock looked ravishing in her bright red Vera Wang -with matching lipstick to boot.
Halle Berry was simply stunning in a champagne and crystal Marchesa gown.
Anne Hathaway, this year’s co-host with James Franco, kept us on our toes with her 8, yes 8, costume changes. Hathaway, who always hits the red carpet in classic and beautiful gowns was perhaps making up for the less than impressive presentation James was putting on…
And just like that award season is over, the golden men are handed out, some egos a little bit bruised. It was a relatively bland year for the red carpet. We saw many pale colours and many understated dresses but nonetheless we always look forward to watching who is going to wear what.
Till next year…
